Mark your calendar, get your tickets, make plans to be a part of history and let’s “make a statement” for lacrosse in the Chicago area.

Special ceremonies will include a tribute to players and coaches, past and present, of Lacrosse America for the growth of lacrosse in the Chicago area. There will be many other promotions and events that will be part of this special night.

Also, mark your calendar for our first-ever Shamrox “Black & Green Scrimmage and Open House” this Sunday December 3rd from Noon-4PM at the Sears Centre. Free admission, free parking and plenty of fun as you’ll get to see the Shamrox practice, scrimmage, and get player autographs on the field at the end of the scrimmage. You’ll also get to meet, get autographs and photos with the ladies of the Shamrox Dance Team.

Inside this edition of Shamrox Scoop, besides Opening Night, Black & Green Scrimmage, and ticket information, you’ll see Roster Information, a One-on-One with star defenseman Cam Woods, Dance Team info and Photo Gallery, and other updates.

It is Holiday Gift time, too. Shamrox tickets and merchandise make great Holiday Gifts for that special lacrosse fan. We’ll be unveiling our new uniforms soon, too.

See you this Sunday at the Black & Green Scrimmage…and at the Home Opener on Saturday January 6th.

1-on-1 with Cam Woods
By Barrett Sallee
Shamrox Scoop: Cam, welcome to the Shamrox and thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions…

Cam Woods:
You’re very welcome; I’m thrilled to be here in Chicago.

SS: What were your first thoughts when you found out you were traded to the Shamrox shortly after the Expansion Draft?

CW: I knew I was going to be playing in a new city this year. I had asked for a trade to the east so I could be closer to my wife and kids and once I found out it was Chicago I couldn’t have been happier. Chicago is one of the greatest cities in pro sports and to be able to represent the Shamrox and introduce lacrosse to a new fan base is something I’m really looking forward to.

SS: What are some of the things that you can teach the younger players?

CW: That every shift of every game counts. There is no time for bad games in this league. So many games are decided by one goal, and at the end of the year the teams that are fighting for a playoff spot are always very close. So, that one bad game mid season could come back to haunt you.

SS: On the field, what do you consider your best attributes?

CW: I’d have to say my intensity and competitiveness. I like to be aggressive and go and challenge the player as opposed to waiting for him to come to me. I hate losing. Hate it. I’m usually a grumpy bugger after a loss so I’ll do anything in my power to win.

SS: Even though you are a veteran, you have spent your entire career with the Albany/San Jose franchise. Is there an adjustment period with the Shamrox?

CW: With regards to how I play and prepare I don’t think so. The biggest adjustment for me will be learning to play with a new group of guys. Learning how to read them and figure out their tendencies. That’s what training camp and the scrimmages are for. Come January, we’ll have it all sorted out.

SS: What are your realistic expectations for the Shamrox in 2007?

CW: Playoffs. As I mentioned earlier a lot of the NLL games are decided by a single goal. If we can be on the winning end of those games then I see the playoffs as an attainable goal. Then once in the playoffs in a single elimination format, anything can happen.

SS: Do you take a different approach to the season because this is a first-year expansion team, or is it business as usual?

CW: Absolutely not. It’s business as usual. I’m not lowering my expectations because we are a new team. We have a good mix of youth and experience and excellent management and coaching. We have all the tools to be a very successful team.

SS: What are you thoughts on Chicago being one of the two new expansion cities in the NLL in 2007?

CW: It’s very exciting. Chicago has a long history of successful sports franchises and very intense fans. Hopefully we will have a lot of that same fan support as we work towards making the Shamrox another one of Chicago’s great sports teams.

SS: In your opinion, which team will be the Shamrox primary rival?

CW: It’s hard to say. I think every team will be our biggest rival. But if I had to choose one, I’d say New York. We are two expansion teams joining at the same time. It’s fair to say that people will be comparing the two of us.

SS: What is your favorite away arena to play in?

CW: Toronto, because so many friends and family are in attendance. But the atmosphere in Colorado is amazing.

SS: Who were your heroes in lacrosse and/or other sports when you were growing up?

CW: The Gait brothers. I have had the opportunity to be amazed by them as a fan, as an opponent and as a teammate. They are lacrosse. My hero’s in other sports, Wayne Gretzky, Patrick Roy, and Muhammed Ali.

SS: If you could have dinner with 3 people, past or present, who would they be and why?

CW: Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. I’ve been leaving Santa Oreo’s for all these years. The least I could do is buy the dude a steak.

SS: Cam, thank you for your time and good luck this season.

CW: It was my pleasure.

Shamrox Dance Team Finalizes Roster
The Chicago Shamrox Dance Team has finalized their roster for the 2007 season. After holding an open tryout on October 28 at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield in Schaumburg, Ill., the team was cut to 27 members. The following weekend, training camp was held and the roster was cut to its final number of 22.

“I could not believe how hard they worked.” said Dance Team Director Kim Brancamp. “We worked for almost 12 hours the first weekend. We cut it down from almost 100 to 27 but couldn’t get it down any farther than that. We took 27 girls to training camp and then made the final cuts. It was just too difficult of a decision to make after one day. We are happy with the 22 girls that made the final roster and are ready to put on a great show for Shamrox fans.”

The yet-to-be-named Dance Team will perform at every Shamrox home game and appear at special events in the area. The team consists of ladies from all over the Chicago area. Their resume of previous dance experience includes the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Rush, Chicago Luvabulls, and the Chicago White Sox Pride Crew.
