| Letter From the
President |
Dear Shamrox Fan,
We’re
five months away from the Chicago Shamrox “Home
Opener”, our first ever game at the Sears Centre
arena. Our Inaugural Season in the NLL starts in
January and we’re excited. Our schedule is due out
any day now. There is a lot happening on
and off the field as we begin our inaugural season
in the NLL.
In this month’s issue of Shamrox Scoop, we feature a
“Q & A” with our Head Coach/General Manager Jamie
Batley as he prepares for the season. He gives his
thoughts as to players, the league and building of
his team. You’ll see details about the players we
selected in the NLL Expansion Draft, as well as the
two trades we made just after the draft. Plus,
there’s info about the NLL Entry Draft on September
13 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
You will also learn that it is “Season Ticket
Priority List” time. Those fans that made a $25
season ticket deposit will be notified and be given
the chance to choose their seat for the 2007 season.
If you are not part of the Priority List, give us a
call to reserve your spot.
You’ll also learn Shamrox ticket pricing for the
2007 inaugural season. We think you’ll like what you
see. Season Tickets will start at $10 a game and
have $15, $20 and $25 options, too. First Row lower
level “on the glass” seats and First Row upper level
seats are available, too, at special VIP pricing.
Plus, we have Sears Centre arena information and
construction update photos, the introduction of our
ticket department, an updated Shamrox directory and
other news.
We want to keep Shamrox fans up to date as we
countdown to the Home Opener. We want to hear from
you, too. So send us your comments, ideas, etc. and
we’ll put some of them in our September issue of
Shamrox Scoop.
That’s what’s going on….the info, the scoop…..the
Shamrox Scoop. GO SHAMROX!
Sincerely,
Conrad “Connie” Kowal

| Chat with Shamrox
Head Coach Jamie Batley |
The Shamrox Scoop caught up with Shamrox Head
Coach/General Manager Jamie Batley and got his
thoughts on the team, the upcoming season, the city
and the future of the NLL in Chicago
Shamrox Scoop: What did you think when you first
heard that the NLL would be in Chicago in the 2007
season?
Jamie Batley: My first thoughts were what a great
city and that it was close to Ontario, unlike the 3
hour flight to Denver when I was coaching for the
Mammoth. My second thought was, there's a Chop House
restaurant downtown that I’ve been to before and I really like.
SS: When putting this team together, what attributes
are you looking for in players?
JB: We are looking for experienced ball players that
can play a transition style. We wanted to build with
a solid veteran defense and great goaltending.
SS: You drafted goaltender Brandon Miller, formerly
of the San Jose Stealth, #1 in the Expansion Draft.
What are your thoughts on him?
JB: Brandon has been on the cusp of being a star in
the NLL for a couple of years. He spent time behind
Stealth All-Star Anthony Cosmo in the winter and Bob
Watson in the Major Series Lacrosse in the summer so
he has learned from some of the best. He has had two
great seasons in the MSL (summer) '05 and '06. And we
believe he is in the top 5 in the NLL best goalie
category.
SS: You made a trade right after the Expansion Draft
and acquired Cam Woods from San Jose. What does he
bring to the Shamrox?
JB: Cam is a veteran defenseman who is well
respected throughout the league. He will bring
leadership and a winning attitude to the Shamrox.
SS: What aspects of the game are you focusing on
when you are preparing for the 2006 NLL Entry Draft
that takes place September 13 in New York?
JB: We believe through the expansion draft, trades
and free agency that we will address our defense
needs, now we will be looking for the best offensive
players available.
SS: Do you think that lacrosse can succeed in
Chicago?
JB: Chicago is an outstanding sports town and
Lacrosse can succeed here. If we get the fan in the
seat once, I have no doubt that they will be hooked
and become die-hard Shamrox fans and follow us every
game.
SS: The NLL has been around for 20+ years, what does
the future hold?
JB: The NLL is in a state of expansion and change.
It will continue to be a faster game and its
popularity throughout North America will continue to
grow. The additions of Chicago and New York to the
NLL will really help the leagues profile.
SS: What are your realistic goals for the Shamrox in
your inaugural season?
JB: We have set our goals high! We expect to make
the playoffs and to see what happens from there.
SS: Thank you for your time Coach, and good luck in
the upcoming season.
JB: Thank you, it was my pleasure. I hope to see
everyone in January at the Sears Centre for our home
opener. |

| Shamrox Make Two Key
Trades |
|
 |
Newly
acquired defenseman,
Cam Woods. |
Since the Expansion Draft, the Chicago Shamrox have
made two key trades to bolster the roster for the
upcoming season.
The Shamrox acquired star
defenseman Cam Woods from the San Jose Stealth in
exchange for Callum Crawford and the second overall
pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. Woods, the 6’3”,
215lb. former captain of the Stealth, is a 7-year
veteran of the league and was named the NLL
Defensive Player of the Year for the 2004 season.
The Shamrox also acquired forwards Mat Giles and
Jason Clark as well as the 12th overall selection in
the 2006 NLL Entry draft from the Edmonton Rush in
exchange for Dan Stroup, Chris Gill and Ryan
O’Connor. During his 7-year career, Giles has
tallied 99 goals and was seventh in the league in
scoring in 2005. Clark, also a 7-year veteran, has
totaled 117 goals in his career that has included
stops in Edmonton, Buffalo, Ottawa, New York,
Toronto and Philadelphia. |
