HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL November 5, 2007 – An afternoon trade by the Chicago Shamrox that sent Cam Woods to the Toronto Rock, gave the Shamrox four picks in the dispersal draft that took place this evening. The dispersal draft, which included players from the Arizona Sting and the new expansion Boston Blazers, took place due to both teams deciding not to play in the 2008 season of the National Lacrosse League (NLL).
The first pick for the Shamrox in the dispersal draft was to be the sixth pick in the first round, however a trade earlier in the afternoon sent Shamrox defensemen Cam Woods to Toronto for defenseman Kevin Fines, Toronto’s first round pick in tonight’s dispersal draft (fourth selection overall) and Toronto’s fifth round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft. Chicago ended up with two picks in the first round of today’s draft (fourth and sixth) along with two other picks in the second and third round (one in each). Each team in the NLL was supposed to receive three picks total, or one pick per round.
Chicago selected Scott Self with their first pick (fourth pick overall), who played for the Arizona Sting last year, who made it to the 2007 NLL Championship but lost to the Rochester Knighthawks 13-11 in the final game of the year. Self played in 16 games during the 2007 season and managed to score 3 goals, 14 assists and picked up 91 loose balls, which was the fourth best on Arizona’s team.
Two selections later, Chicago selected fellow Arizona teammate Lindsay Plunckett, who will bring offensive power to the Shamrox. Plunckett was an offensive powerhouse on the Sting by racking up 31 goals, second most on the team, over 16 games along with 35 assists, tied for third most on the team, and 75 looseballs.
The Shamrox also picked up two other players in the dispersal draft, Brock Boyle and Andrew Lazore, both which were picked up from Boston but originally played for different teams during the 2007 season. Boyle, who played in Minnesota in 2007, is a transitional player who played in 12 games and scored 8 goals while picking up 7 assists and 41 loose balls. Lazore on the other hand played in Arizona in 2007 and only saw action in one game last year. Even though Lazore only played in one game during the 2007 season, he made other teams remember him by scoring 2 goals and scooping up 2 loose balls. Both players were picked up originally when Boston selected them in the 2007 Expansion Draft.
