Bobby McBride during a hockey game at Carleton University in Ottawa where he attends school.
HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL November 10, 2007 – The Chicago Shamrox announced today that they have signed Bobby McBride, who originally was selected by the Toronto Rock in the 2nd round of the NLL Entry Draft in 2002. McBride will be a forward for the Shamrox during their second season in Chicago as they try to make their first post-season appearance in their short franchise history.
McBride, who is a righty forward, has never played in the NLL but is no stranger to lacrosse in Canada where he has played over the past nine years with the Toronto Beaches in Junior A and with the Brampton Excelsiors and the Brooklin Redmen of the Major Series Lacrosse League (MSL). Over his nine years with all three clubs, McBride has played in 84 games scoring 67 goals, 53 assists and 120 points.
In addition to lacrosse, McBride is also a hockey player who played in college for St. Mary’s University and currently for Carleton University in Ottawa. McBride also has played hockey outside of college in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Kingston Frontenacs and the Oshawa Generals.
Ironically, McBride has a strong connection to the Shamrox already. While playing hockey at St. Mary’s University, McBride was teammates with Shamrox new comer Lindsay Plunkett and also with another Shamrox new comer’s brother, Scott Self.
The Chicago Shamrox are currently selling season, group and individual tickets. Individual tickets can be purchased by calling the Sears Centre box office at 888-SEARSTIX or by going online at www.searscentre.com. Season and group tickets (featuring discounts and benefits) can be purchased by calling the Shamrox front office at 877-SHAMROX. The Shamrox take the field for their second season in Chicago on January 5 when they play the Toronto Rock at 7:00pm at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates. The 2008 season features 8 Home Games that are played on weekend dates. In their Inaugural Season, the Shamrox drew an average attendance of 6,025 and record of 6-10, missing the playoffs by a tie breaker.
