March 1, 2008 - For the third straight game, the Chicago Shamrox (1-6) dug themselves into a hole they couldn’t get out of. The Rochester Knighthawks (4-4) took an early 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, and the Shamrox never recovered as they suffered their fourth straight loss 18-8.
A fan shows us that he came for the Rox Dancers on Saturday night. www.GrabowskiPhoto.com Goaltending was an issue all night as Brandon Miller and Derek Collins both saw about equal amounts of playing time, with equally bad results.
The Knighthawks’ Shawn Evans put his team up 2-0 early by scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the game. In the next two minutes Chris Schiller and Mat McLeod both added goals for the Knighthawks to give them their early 4-0 lead.
Lindsay Plunkett finally put the Shamrox on the board by scoring his first of two goals at 9:18.
The second quarter was just as disastrous as the first quarter for Miller as the Knighthawks put in two more goals in the first 1:30 of the 2nd, to put Rochester up 6-1.
After going down 6-1, Collins (26 saves, 7 goals against) relieved Miller (7 saves, 11 goals against).
Collins provided some relief as he held the Knighthawks to only one goal the rest of the period as Mike Kirk kept Chicago’s slim hopes alive after he scored late in the 2nd to end the half with the Shamrox down 7-2.
The 3rd quarter was the Shamrox worst period of the night as the Knighthawks scored 7 times. John Grant scored 3 times in the period and Shawn Williams scored twice, increasing the Knighthawks lead to 14-4.
Chicago found the net as many times in the 4th quarter than they did all game, scoring 4 times with Lindsay Plunkett and Mike Kirk adding their second goals and Bobby McBride scoring two goals.
The Knighthawks were led by 3 players who had more than ten points; Shawn Evans (4 goals, 7 assists) and Shawn Williams (3 goals, 8 assists) both had 11 points and John Grant (5 goals, 5 assists) had 10 points.
The Shamrox were led by Lindsay Plunkett (2 goals, 1 assist) and Jason Clark (3 assists).
Chicago will look to end their four game skid when they travel to play the Minnesota Swarm (6-2) at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday, March 14 at 7pm.
