Shamrox Win in 4th Quarter Rally

ROCHESTER, NY March 22, 2008 – A tremendous 4th quarter rally by the Chicago Shamrox while on the road in Rochester against the Knighthawks, helped the team secure their first road win of the season against the 2007 NLL Champions.

Tonight’s game has been much different from past Shamrox games so far this season. The Shamrox were neck and neck with the Knighthawks throughout the entire first quarter of action at the Blue Cross Arena, which has played a decisive role in several Shamrox loses so far this season. New Shamrox goalie Matt Roik tallied 11 saves in the first quarter alone and held the Knighthawks scoreless until 7:10 in the quarter.

At half-time, the Shamrox were only down by two goals and they needed to use the second half as a launching pad for victory. After a quiet 3rd quarter with only three goals being scored by both sides, Shamrox forward Jonas Derks scored a goal 1:11 into the 4th quarter which set off a firestorm of goals by the team.

Derks led the team in goals by scoring four goals in the victory against the Knighthawks, two of which were in the 4th quarter alone. So far during the 2008 season, Derks has been impressive by scoring in five of six games played with four of those five games being multi-goal games.

Two other players on the Shamrox played an enormous part in the teams’ victory as well, forward Cody Jacobs and goaltender Matt Roik.

Jacobs, who is playing in his second year in the league, has only been back for three games, and he has been successful in making some serious noise for the team since returning. Over the last two games, Jacobs has scored eight points (5g, 3a). Tonight alone the Shamrox forward scored a hat trick and picked up two assists.

Roik, who was acquired by the Shamrox this month, has only seen two games of action including tonight, and was as impressive, if not more so, than any other goalie in the NLL. Roik made a total of 45 saves tonight, which was just as impressive as his 47 saves the week earlier while playing against Minnesota on the road.

The Shamrox return home next Saturday, March 29 when they take on the Minnesota Swarm (7-3) at 7:00pm at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL. The first 2,000 fans 18 and under will receive a free water park pass to CoCo Key Water Resort in Arlington Heights.
