Self Wins Defensive Player and McBride Wins Rookie of the Week

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL April 9, 2008 – Chicago Shamrox defenseman Scott Self was named today Defensive Player of the Week and transitional player Bobby McBride was named Rookie of the Week for Week #16 of the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

Self, who is playing in his first-year with the Chicago Shamrox, scored two goals, one assist and scooped up ten looseballs in the Shamrox’s 15-14 overtime victory against the first place Philadelphia Wings at the Sears Centre Arena last Saturday night. Known as a durable and dependent defenseman, Self has only missed four regular-season games over the past seven seasons. Self currently is second on the team with 69 looseballs for the season.

McBride, who picks up his second Rookie of the Week award and third Player of the Week award, had a stellar game last Saturday night against the Philadelphia Wings where he scored two goals and scooped up ten looseballs. McBride’s second goal of the game, which ended up being the game winning goal, came seven seconds into the Shamrox’ first ever overtime appearance. During Week #2 of game action this season, McBride picked up two Player of the Week awards, Rookie and Transition Player of the Week, which was the first time in NLL history that a player received both awards in the same week.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league’s 12 teams.

The Chicago Shamrox (4-7) will play the Toronto Rock (7-6) on the road at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday, April 12 at 6PM.
